|
Asia and the Middle East are home to more than half of the world's population and arguably the world's most diverse range of social cultures. So, how do 3 1/2 billion people in 45 countries manage the delivery of their goods and services? Does Asia represent an attractive business opportunity for logistics companies from developed nations? What can western logistics professionals contribute, and what can they learn from business practices in Asia? This session introduces some of the idiosyncrasies of Asia to those who are considering new business opportunities in the region or are simply interested in learning the best practices from masterful logisticians.

Martyn Isbell - Executive General Manager - International Business Dexion Limited
|
Martyn Isbell joined Dexion in 1973 and was originally based in London. Initially focusing on projects in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, Dexion aggressively entered African and Middle Eastern markets in the mid-to late 1970's. Soon Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Iraq and Iran became its largest export markets. Sales to the Middle East continued to grow and a Gulf Office was established in Dubai during the mid 1980's.
Martyn relocated to Australia in 1984 and soon afterwards was appointed Dexion's Asia Pacific Sales & Marketing Director. He was instrumental in developing Dexion's existing South East Asia business in Malaysia and this now includes the manufacturing of high-density mobile storage products under license from Spacesaver Corp of Wisconsin. More recently Martyn sponsored Dexion's acquisition of a manufacturing company in Shanghai, China, and negotiated a distribution partnering agreement in India.
In the late-1990's Martyn initiated Dexion's acquisition of a niche systems' software business and he became the inaugural Managing Director of Dexion Integrated Systems Pty Limited, a new Dexion company that designed and installed the-then world's largest single installation of pick-to-light equipment (23,000 LED pick displays). Today Martyn is responsible for the operations and development of Dexion Asia Pacific's businesses in South East Asia, North East Asia, the Middle East, India and South America.
In his 36-year career with Dexion in the materials handling industry Martyn has travelled and worked in over 70 countries. He has qualifications in Civil Engineering, Finance and Marketing and lives in Sydney, Australia, with his wife of over 30 years with whom he has two adult children.
