Lean, Green Packaging Machines - Part 1: Science

E-commerce and B2B small order fulfillment have driven the packaging industry to innovate cost, waste and time out of the last mile of the supply chain. In this workshop we will explore several new technologies in bagging single and multi-line orders with a focus on automating processes, shrinking packaging and improving customer service.

Paul Singh, Ph.D. - Director, Center for Distribution Packaging Research
Michigan State University

Dr. Paul Singh is Professor at the School of Packaging, Michigan State University. His responsibilities include research and teaching in the areas of packaging, transportation and storage environment, machinery and automation. He has served as a consultant to various Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies like the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Justice, United Nations, and World Bank providing assistance in Packaging, Material Handling, and Transportation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Packaging Research Institutes and the International Safe Transit Association. He is a member of IOPP, ASTM, ASME and NIPHLE. He is the recipient of the 2006 Logistics Achievement Award from NIPHLE and 2007 Award of Merit from ASTM. In 2008, he was inducted as a Lifetime Certified Packaging Professional. Dr. Singh is a Fellow of ASTM and IOPP. Dr. Singh provides consultation on a contract basis to assist projects related to packaging. He was selected by NASA to review the BioPlex project (Manned Mission to Mars) for advanced life support systems, and the US Marine Corps for an ISO Containerless System. He is a member of WalMart's Sustainable Value Network Team and has been an invited keynote speaker on this topic in Europe, Asia and North America.
